RARE BIRDS YEARBOOK 2008

The first edition of Rare Birds Yearbook will be published in association with BirdLife International in October 2007.

The purpose of the book is to put focus on the most endangered species in the world – their current situation, future prospects and what can be done to save them for coming generations. Apart from the directory section of the 189 critically endangered species, the yearbook will have a number of specially written feature articles on issues related to threatened birds such as migration, rare bird sites and taxonomy. The book will also consist of sections on statistics and lists, a directory of regional organisations and much more. In addition, ?4.00 for each sold book is donated straight to BirdLife International?s conservation work.

The competition

We are looking for photos of 189 of the world?s most endangered species – the Critically Endangered (see list).

If you have captured one or more of these rare species on film, please send them to us and get the chance of having your photo published for fellow birders all over the world to see.
For each photo published in RBYB 2008, you will take part in a competition in which you can win some great prizes.

If you are not one of the lucky winners but your photo is published, you will get a copy of Rare Birds Yearbook 2008 sent home to you. You will also have the opportunity to buy extra copies for your friends at a 25% discount.
And remember – for each book sold BirdLife International obtains a substantial sum to their work of saving these threatened species.

Terms and conditions

By entering the Rare Birds Yearbook photo competition, entrants grant Rare Birds Yearbook and BirdLife International the right to publish, printed or electronically, submitted photographs.

Photographers will be credited.

Entrants may enter as many pictures as they wish but MagDig Media is not required to use all or any entries which have been submitted.

Images which contain misidentified species or where the species cannot be identified with certainty are excluded from the competition.

Images showing birds at nests cannot be entered.

Images may be submitted electronically in the following format; JPG, TIFF and EPS.
In the box, please state the name of the image and species, date, place and photographer. Unlabelled images will not take part in the competition.

Are your pictures not in a digital format?
Send slides by snail mail to: MagDig Media, Hed嫥rsv䧥n 29D, SE-217 64 Malm?weden.
Please make sure you include the following information:

Name
Full mail address
Email address
Telephone numbers
Fax if applicable
Picture 1: species, place taken, year taken, Picture 2 etc

Photos sent by regular mailed will be returned with the same type of postage (e. g. registered) as they have been submitted with.

Non-digital photos will be returned before 31st December 2007.

Entrants must provide MagDig Media with a current email address to which communications can be sent. For those without email a full postal address must be supplied.

MagDig Media will not forward any addresses (email or otherwise) to a third party.

Winners will be announced on this website on 31st July 2007.

By submitting photos to the competition, the entrant
• guarantees that he/she owns the copyright to the work or any part of the submitted work.
• holds MagDig Media harmless from any claims, actions, proceedings costs and expenses that may arise as a result from allegations that the copyright or ownership of the entered work does not belong to the entrant.


The decision of the judges is binding and no correspondence or discussions into their decisions shall be made.

In addition to photographic quality, the judges will also take into account the number of available pictures of a species or a species’ rarity when selecting winners.

Entrants shall not object to any cropping or other minor alteration of the works for the purpose of including them in the published book or on the website.
